When the original Chelmsford club closed down in 1938 a new club was formed with the aim of joining the Football League. Ex-international player Billy Walker was appointed as manager, and well-known players with League experience signed. In a sensational start to the new club’s career, they reached the 4^th round of the FA Cup, losing to Birmingham. Jack Rollin’s book looks at the players from the period and includes full line-ups and scorers for the club’s games in the Southern League for 1939-40 and other matches
